some further impressions from dehli

visitors at the ghandi smriti ( formerly birla house). the first two men group on the left reflects the situation in india between modernity and tradition quite good. the left of both wears modern western clothing and whereas the second wears typical traditional cothes.

this picture was taken on an main road in dehli where not only cars driving, but also some elephants fullfill their daily tasks. this is also an excellent example for the actual situation in this tranforming country.

mahatma ghandi

the pitures shows the chair of mahatma ghandi based in the park of the ghandi smritri (birla house), where he used to meditate and pray. it was an very emotional and in some case an electrifiying moment too standing just in front of that place where one of the finest men ever walked on this planet meditated and thought about the nation's future in a peaceful way.

impressions of dehli streetlife

great cities : dehli

my first trip to india started directly in the crowded, colourful and unruly heart of India. arriving early in the morning at the indira ghandi international airport the first i recognized was the special kind of indian smell (everyone who's been there knows what i'm talking about). after the 60 minutes transfer to the hotel i felt asleep directly. five hours later , back on the scene we took a cab (on e of the yellow black ones without air condition) and started our five hours roundtrip trough all parts of dehli. during our trip we vistited the ghandi smriti museum formerly known as birla house, where the great founder of the indian nation, mahatma ghandi lived till his assassination and where he used to hold his prayers and meetings. our next point of interest was the enormous gate of india, which let the l'arc de triumphe in paris looks pale because of its dimensions. the picture on the left shows humayun's tomb. its alikeness with the taj mahal is amazing but explainable. the tomb was the prototype for one of the seven new wonders of the world.
